The prevalence of obesity among children ages 6 to 11 years more than doubled in the past 20 years, going from 6.5% in 1980 to 17.% in 2006.
Children who are obese are at greater risk for bone and joint problems, sleep apnea, and social and psychological problems such as stigmatization and poor self-esteem.

Beginning Summer 2012
The newly formed Texas Athletic Federation or TAF
is currently organizing districts across Texas in which local amateur dodgeball competition will begin this summer.
The TAF State Championships will be hosted by the City of Brownsville in August 2012.

The RGV Golden Gloves District tournament will be held February 24-26 2012 at the Brownsville Urban Center, 34 Tony Gonzalez Park Brownsville Texas.
The State Golden Gloves Tournament will be held Feb. 29th - Mar. 3rd 2012
in Ft. Worth Texas

Each summer a select group of youth professionals brave the woods of Garner State Park and take more than 30 young campers on a week long exciting trip.
